Applecross Farm

Applecross Farm was hosting the county harvest show, and the whole lane smelled of warm pie. Mrs. Elwood, the show judge, was famous for a stern pencil and a sweet tooth, and she had tasted forty entries by noon. She never announced the winners. Mrs. Elwood was found dead before the last ribbon was handed out. Biscuit trotted off, nose to the ground. Time to pick up the trail.

The victim: Mrs. Elwood, the show judge.
